#DoomMetalMonday: Floor

Floor is one of those legendary lost bands of the early 90s stoner rock/doom genre. If you've never come across this record before, you wouldn't be judged. The band initially formed in 1992, and between some EPs and breakups, the released their first full-length album 10 years later in 2002, with Floor.

Actually, material was recording for two full-length albums: 1994's Dove and 1995's Saturnine and Tears. These albums weren't released until after the band's eponymous album. Oh what an album Floor is, crushing and melodic, a precursor to Torche, which you can hear all over this record. And yet, Floor is a thing unto itself, marrying more to heavy metal than stoner rock by throwing in elements of high accessible power pop, a move that was hugely influential to stoner rock going forward.

The album deserves all sorts of "fuck yeahs" — and here's an interesting bit a trivia that should not go unnoticed: At the 14:19 marker ("Sneech") you'll hear EARTH's Dylan Carlson (best friend and person who bought the gun that killed Kurt Cobain) being sampled from his interview from the Kurt & Kourtney documentary saying, " I would kill them," referring to what would happen if he really thought Kurt was murdered. So yeah, there's that.
