Pink Floyd Shrimp

April 13, 2017 | by Jocelyn Hoppa

As gleaned from BBC, a new species of pistol or snapping shrimp (which features one large pink claw) has emerged. The team that discovered this new little guy were determined to name it after Pink Floyd — the team loves the band and agreed, upon discovering a new species, they would go in this creative direction.

Official name: synalpheus pinkfloydi.

Talent/Significance: Using it's one large pink claw to create a noise so loud (up to 210 decibels!) it can kill a small fish.

Nothing Pink Floyd about that last tidbit. Anyway, here's Animals, featuring titles referring to dogs, pigs and sheep. In this context, where "dogs" are big business, "pigs" are politics and celebrity, and "sheep" the rest of us, what does that make the newly coined pink-clawed shrimp?
