Chester Bennington, the lead singer and songwriter of angsty Linkin Park, has died at 41. He was also known for his work in the side project Dead By Sunrise, and spent two years as the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots after they parted ways with Scott Weiland.
Los Angeles County law enforcement received a call at 9am this morning reporting Bennington's death, a possible suicide. It has yet to be confirmed that his death was by hanging (TMZ headline suggests so) until the LA County's Coroner's Office releases their investigative report.
Linkin Park planned to start touring in one week. Bennington is survived by his wife and six children.
There's video about of Bennington performing at Chris Cornell's funeral, as well as having died on Cornell's birthday, which makes all of this that much more fucking tragic and awful.
Time to talk about the tough stuff: Bennington struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for years, and said he had suicidal thoughts after being abused as a child by an older man.
We can only begin to fathom how the honesty in his lyrics helped so many fans process the heartbreak and loss of innocence in their own lives.
