Richard Hell, Man of Letters, to Exhibit at White Columns in NYC

January 11, 2018 | by Jocelyn Hoppa

Well before Richard Hell became a punk rock pioneer, Richard Meyers (real name) was a small press writer, publisher, editor, and book designer. Well before he picked up the bass, he began his first small literary magazine and press. In other words, he has our collective heart in his front pocket.

And really, his lyrics found on Richard Hell & the Voidoids material was always far more bleak storytelling and punk poetry than anything else.

From January 16 to January 27, Richard's 50-year (1968-2017) retrospective of his publishing work will be on view at White Columns, New York's oldest alternative art space. At the opening of the exhibition, there will also be a publication party for his most recent small press book, Untitled, featuring new fiction and poetry.

You can learn more about his publishing adventures, which started off at the age of 17, at the Please Kill Me website.
