#DoomMetalMonday: Reign in Green Druid's Ashen Blood
June 25, 2018 | by Jocelyn Hoppa
Does the world really need another cloaked-and-hooded doom band obsessed with weed? Simple answer: YES.
Green Druid hails from Denver, CO, the first state in the U.S. to legalize marijuana... not that that stopped San Jose, CA band Sleep from writing albums extensively about that particular subject matter, but surely it doesn't hurt matters either.
The four-piece doom metal band released their debut album Ashen Blood on the famed heavy label Earache Records back in mid-March. The album is rife with extended, brooding stoner-drenched jams. Green Druid didn’t just crop up overnight like some Magical Mary J plant… four songs from Ashen were previously released as an EP back in 2015 (way back yonder).
You can listen to (and purchase) Ashen Blood over at Green Druid's Bandcamp page, where the band proclaims, "... weighty riffs summoning the Lovecraftian horrors of the cosmos." Dark fantasy and gothic fiction? You can't see me, but I'm theoretically giving two thumbs up while choking like a champion on a four-foot bong rip.
But first, get yourself nice and chonged on "Dead Trees" (and the drippy, trippy psychedelic companion visuals).
