Happy 30th Anniversary to "A Salt With a Deadly Pepa"
August 2, 2018 | by James Greene, Jr.
On this day in 1988, Salt-N-Pepa released their sophomore effort A Salt With a Deadly Pepa, which proves the only thing missing from the Beatles' version of "Twist & Shout" is the command for listeners to "work that booty." Salt-N-Pepa also adapt the Isley Brothers' "It's Your Thing" on the album, transforming the classic into the equally fun "Shake Your Thang" (with the featured assistance of funk band Experience Unlimited).
Robert Christgau complains about the "ordinary rhymes" on A Salt in his consumer guide, but come on, Rob, it's not the material, it's the delivery. And Salt-N-Pepa always deliver.
