Celebrate Will Smith's 50th Birthday by Watching Him Perform a Mary Poppins Rap at Disneyland in

Happy 50th Will Smith

September 25, 2018| by James Greene, Jr.

The Fresh Prince himself Will Smith turns 50 today and what better excuse is there to post this footage of Smith and his partner DJ Jazzy Jeff performing a hip hop take on the Mary Poppins classic "Supercali-fragilisticexpialidocious" in front of Cinderella's castle in 1990? This clip is from "Disneyland's 35th Anniversary Celebration," a one hour special that aired February 4 of that year as part of NBC's recurring series "The Magical World of Disney." Having recently viewed the entirety of this televised entry, I can assure you Smith is absolutely the most entertaining aspect.

The competition is not stiff. "Disneyland's 35th" is hosted by Tony Danza and features guest spots by Charles Fleischer, C-3PO, and Branden Maciel, who portrays a young Woody Boyd in a bizarre "Cheers"-related flashback. There are also appearances by popular yokel Ernest P. Worrell and our 40th president Ronald Reagan.

In the pantheon of ludicrous Disney broadcasts, this special isn't as bonkers as "Mickey's 60th Birthday" (wherein a sorcerer condemns Mickey Mouse to non-existence because he blows up a cake) but it also isn't as painful as "Totally Minnie" (in which Suzanne Somers teaches Robert Carradine to be cool by making him watch cartoons).

At any rate, happy birthday, Will Smith! Please try to work "antidisestablishmentarianism" into more of your songs.
